Beach –

My wife and I have visited many beaches around the world. This was a direct result of my love of scuba diving. I hope to give you a glimpse of some of these wonderful places we have seen. I will describe each beach below its picture.

We will start with Cabo San Lucas from February of 2006:

This is at the very tip of the California Baja Peninsula at the famous Arch. This is Divorce Beach on the Pacific side. It is so called because of the rip tides that tend to pull you out into the Pacific Ocean. On the bay side, just a five minute walk away is Lovers Beach.

If you head directly up the Pacific coast, past California, Oregon, Washington, and Canada, you will arrive at the beautiful Alaskan port of Ketchikan. A short excursion by boat takes you to the Misty Fjords where you can experience some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Here is a small beach at the outlet of a stream into the bay. You can see the waves from our slowly moving boat heading toward the shore, enhancing the reflection of the trees in the water. This picture is from July of 2006.

In Juneau, Alaska you can see the Mendenhall Glacier. This picture from the same July 2006 trip, shows a fragment that broke off from the foot of the glacier and lodged itself against a small spit of land. Note the small beach in front of the glacier. You can walk around the beach from where I took this picture and get quite close the beautiful ice.

Here is a beach on Grand Turk just outside Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant. The picture was taken from the pier where our cruise ship was docked. The water is warm, clear, and beautiful.

Here is a very different kind of beach. We were on a scenic float rafting ride down the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park in August of 2008. The rocky beaches barely held in the cold river water from the melting snow of the nearby peaks.

Now we shift back to a a beach in Puerto Rico taken in March of 2011. This beach was more for laying out in the sun. The water was beautiful but very shallow and rocky. The palm trees and the hammock give the impression that you should take a load off of your feet, sip on a delicious tropical drink, and then indulge in a quite afternoon nap in the shade.

The Norwegian Fjords have a whole different kind of beach. Notice the kelp along the edge of the water with a slightly orange hue that helps the eye leap into the red of the house on this little peninsula.

And here is a beach from the Fiji Islands.
