Somehow, the meat of this post disappeared. I will try to recreate it from memory.
The two photos are from the same church in Valencia. The doors are only part of picture. The door framing is quite elaborate and makes the doors seem quite substantial (which they already were).
Notice the heads missing from the two statues in the alcoves above the walking woman’s head. I guess vandalism has occurred throughout the ages.
Sometimes vandalism, i. e. beheading of sculptures, was executed by followers of a rival religion.

Those are some seriously heavy-duty doors. It always makes me wonder what types of equipment were needed in order to hand these behemoths.

I would have loved to open and close the doors to see how difficult it was. Alas, that was not possible on a tour.

Aye, they don’t make doors like they used to. These are truly magnificent.

Amazing doors. It looks like one of the statues is missing, too. Probably in someone’s garden for the past hundred years, lol.

I love doors like these. I am always curious as to who came up with such fantastic work on it. The time, the energy spent in building such a masterpiece requires a true master.

Charles, these are beautiful doors and I like having the heads of the people in the shot.

Glad you don’t mind the heads. When you are on a tour with a group, you can’t always wait for everyone to clear the area to take the shot. You just have time to wait for the ‘right’ people in the ‘right’ places.

Nice church doors! I wonder of the headless statues were really vandalism; I recall seeing several headless statues at Notre Dame in France and they were not due to vandalism.

I don’t know for sure why the two statues were headless. I was just guessing based upon the heads residing on all of the other statues.
