Share Your World – 2016 Week 25

This is my response to Cee Neuner’s SYW challenge of the week. Here are the criteria:

  • To answer three random questions each week.
  • Respond to a fourth item (I will randomly chose from this list)
    • Making a List out of a topic
    • Completing the sentence I start
    • Answering a Would you Rather question
  • Bonus Question is always the same  “What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?”  Because we all need to be reminded that there are many things in our lives to be grateful about.

Here are the questions:

How many languages do you you speak?

What are some words that just make you smile?

If you were the original architect of one existing building, which building would you select?

Would you rather have telepathy or telekinesis?  (Telepathy is the communication using your brain waves, telekinesis is channeling the energy onto physical objects to cause substantial, observable physical changes.)

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Here is my response:

How many languages do you you speak?

I speak three languages fluently. They are IBM Assembler language, COBOL (Common Business-Oriented Language), and American English. I studied French in high school, German in college but I only remember a smattering of phrases from each.

What are some words that just make you smile?

Wife, grandchildren, twins, family, water (especially for swimming or scuba diving), the Sun (the tune Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles is one of my favorites and always makes me smile), cruising, exploring, Space (as in “The Final Frontier), and “nice shot” as in pool or golf.

If you were the original architect of one existing building, which building would you select?

Definitely St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. The featured image was borrowed from http://www.worldfortravel.com/2015/09/09/the-smallest-sovereign-state-vatican/

I scanned two pictures from our 2001 trip to the Vatican that I hop you will enjoy:

Would you rather have telepathy or telekinesis?

I would definitely choose telekinesis. Telepathy would make my world intolerable with all of the thoughts of everyone around me interfering with my own. It would be like standing in the middle of Grand Central Station with everyone talking to you at the same time.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week was fun filled with two good rounds of golf and a good night for me on my pool team (billiards) where I beat a strong opponent 4-nil. With all of these activities, I fell behind in my blogging and wound up responding to only half of my friends posts. My apologies. I look forward to being better this week.

  1. Thanks so much for sharing. I’m not surprise you know COBOL. I’ve been in around the computer industry since they came out. I was a software tester for a while and Chris has been in soft and hardware QA and project management for ages.

    1. I acquired my programming and design skills working for Ross Perot at Electronic Data Systems (EDS) back in the middle ’70s. That training stood me in good stead for my 39 year career in the industry, including 24 years as an independent consultant. I speak those languages better than English, because there are a limited number of rules.
