Here is a combination of a mundane theme (Bird on a Branch) with a not so mundane back story. I like the picture because of the splash of red feathers on this Red Vented Bulbul. I also like the contrast between the thorns on the branch and the beak of the bird.
The back story begins with the location, the island of Lautoka in The Republic of Fiji. Here the bird is considered an invasive species brought in by migrants from India. Once released into the wild, the birds flourished on many of the crops harvested by the local population. So, being pretty was not enough to win over the hearts of the people of Fiji.
