Our Crape Myrtle is blooming a little early this year. Yesterday, there were only three blooms out of dozens that had bloomed. Here is the tree seen from the side with the few blooms in the back:
From the front, all you can see are the berry shaped housings for the emerging blooms. Here is a shot of one bloom peeking out. Notice it comes out pink to start and then changes to red later:
Next is a picture of a bloom that is just one day advanced from the previous:
Next is a picture of a single open bloom with the neighbors house and yard forming a darker background:
Here is the same bloom taken from the other side with the blue sky for a background:
Finally, I have a close up of the bloom giving a better sense of its structure:
A week from today I will show you the entire plant in bloom. It should be spectacular.
