What could possibly be the Cherry On Top of visiting St. Peters Church at the Vatican? Here is a photo taken in front of the church as they were preparing for a service in Vatican Square in May of 2001.
Once inside, however, we found the cherry on top:
The Pieta statue was located in an alcove to the right as you came in the huge front doors of the church. I had seen this wonderful art treasure at the World’s Fair in New York City in 1964, but seeing it again back in St. Peters definitely was the highlight of the visit.
These images were scanned from my 4×6 print photos. How I wish I was back there now with a good digital camera! The Vatican is a treasure trove of buildings, artwork, and all around grandeur.
