Caribbean Cruise – 1st Stop – St Maarten

This was our first trip on Holland America’s ship ms Konigsdam which went into service in April of 2016. The ship was beautifully furnished with a much lighter and brighter theme than other ships in the fleet.

We departed from Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on March 1st. This was a mid-week departure, so we were the only ship in the port. On this cruise, we spent the first two days at sea on our way to our first port of call – St. Maarten.

We have visited this island on several occasions, including a  one week stay with friends in their time-share condo, so we didn’t bother booking a shore excursion. Instead, we went for a walk-about in town to capture images for my various regular blog posts. Keep watch for Sunday Trees, Monday Window, and Thursday Door posts from the various island stops.

Here are some shots taken around the port city of Philipsburg.

The next two photos are of a yacht for the truly rich and famous, including a helicopter for quick jaunts ashore.

This next ship is a sailing cruise ship called Wind Surf.

And finally, back to the Konigsdam. I got into a bit of trouble on the pier when I stepped over the yellow line to get this shot, but it was worth the minor aggrevation.
