Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: View from the Back, Bottom or Underneath

Here we are behind and underneath an iconic  Carnival Cruise Ship smokestack.

And here we see the back of the departing Princess Cruise Line ship Caribbean Princess, sailing out of Cozumel, Mexico:

Of course, we were on our favorite cruise line – Holland America and their wonderful ship the Nieuw Amsterdam.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Good and Bad

For today’s challenge, I thought a return to the Badlands of South Dakota might be appropriate. My wife and I visited Badlands National Park in August of 2008. It was the last day on a wonderful nine day bus excursion that started in Salt Lake City and wound through many of our wonderful national parks and monuments. On the last day we visited the Badlands, the Crazy Horse Memorial, and Mount Rushmore.

Here are two pictures from the badlands (the Bad) and one additional picture (the Good in the Badlands).

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Big and Small

Timing was critical on this photo. I wanted the prow of the Carib Princess to line up with the prow of the Nieuw Amsterdam. The shutter was just a hair early, but I think the shot is even better than I hoped, because the black background from the Holland America Line ship makes a crisp border for the tender boat crossing in front:

I also like the splash of color from the buoy and the bulbous bow just peeking out above the surface of the water by the anchor chain.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Rock Paper Scissors

The first thing that came to my mind was “The Rock”. Here is Gibraltar in all of its majesty.

And here is is from a different angle:

I also thought of another rock: the Grand Tetons:

Try to cover either with paper. I don’t think so.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Windows

This is my favorite window shot that was featured on my Monday Window post in the middle of September. The picture is from the Ss. Nicholas, Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Roseland, New Jersey. You can follow the link to learn more about the Church and its windows and doors.

Here are the windows from the inside.

And here is another window looking out over a small courtyard.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Purples

This weeks Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge is to find something purple.

I went back to our trip to Charleston, SC as I remembered a particularly beautiful plant with purple leaves.

I took two photos from different angles. Which one do you like best?

Fast-paced military science fiction, I was very impressed that this is a first novel for Mr. Waugh. The author has really done his homework, as he has worked with many concepts of science, history, anthropology, space travel and military technology in this book. The story “reads” very well, editing is good, I only found 3 or 4 instances where the wrong word was used or misspelled. I really like the chapter structure and the 3 main story lines that are going on (two alien ones, and one human). I can’t wait to get the next installment of this story–hope it comes soon.
